Movement For All Vendor Spotlight: Detroit Body Garage

Movement For All, powered by On, is about more than movement. It’s about creating access, building community, and connecting participants with resources that support their full journey. Along the way, we’re proud to partner with vendors who share that spirit and bring their own expertise, creativity, and care to the program.

In this Vendor Spotlight, we’re introducing you to Detroit Body Garage! Check out our interview with Terra Castro, Owner & Founder of Detroit Body Garage. Check out the story behind the brand and why we are so excited to have them as a partner.

RIDC: How did you get started in the movement space? What motivated you to start your career in this industry?

Terra: I was a professional triathlete for over a decaded and when I retired I found myself rebuilding my life post-divorce and racing. I stepped into a gym in Detroit and found myself falling in love with movement, not for performance results but for my heart. Coming from 8 hours of training a day, it shifted my perspective on what is healthy and it is here that I became motivated to coach people to be bold and move. To start where they are. It pushed me to open Detroit Body Garage.

RIDC: How do you view your role in the movement industry? What goals do you have for those who work with you?

Terra: I believe my unique perspective as a professional athlete, single mom, coach, and gym owner has helped me step into a broader wellness leadership role. I see movement as a tool for community health, connection, and social change. I stand firm in the belief that wellness is tied to public health, access to care, and the policies that shape our neighborhoods and opportunities. It is bigger than fun workouts or getting ripped.

My goal for those who work with me is that they leave with more than physical strength. I want them to feel empowered in their bodies, connected to their community, and equipped to advocate for their own health and well-being. I hope they see movement not just as exercise, but as a road to joy, belonging, and a healthier future for themselves and those around them.

RIDC: What has being part of our Movement For All program meant to your business?

Terra: Movement For All has helped me realize that the work we're doing at Detroit Body Garage is part of a much larger movement. This program reminded me that creating access to movement is meaningful work. It has connected me with a network of people who share those values and strengthened my commitment to making wellness accessible to all.
