Real Talk and Running as One: Saucony in Philly ‘Friday Morning Commute’ Recap
The Saucony Friday Morning Commute set the tone for the Love Run Philly race weekend, the only way RIDC knows how: in community, on purpose, and with a whole lot of heart. The rain didn’t stop a thing! Runners ran. Walkers walked. Conversations flowed. And from the very first step, it was clear that this gathering was bigger than a morning meetup.
Led by Abigail Goldstein alongside Black Girls Run! ambassadors Theresa Clinton and Rachee Fagg, the community hit the pavement together for a 2-mile run and walk. This set the tone for the conversation that was to come and reminded us to remember to show up for ourselves with movement.
“At some point, you have to just try, and I can guarantee you’re going to surprise yourself. The biggest barrier when it comes to running is the battle between you and YOU.”
Guests then gathered for a fireside conversation featuring Olympic medalist Molly Huddle, fitness leader and Peloton coach Kirsten Ferguson, and RIDC Executive Director Kiera Smalls. The conversation was engaging, honest, and deeply inspiring as they each talked about how they started running, what it took to stay in it, and how their journeys have shifted through life, motherhood, and growth.
The ladies also shared real tips for both new runners trying to find their footing and seasoned runners navigating new seasons. And when the question came, what does “run as one” mean? The answers hit home with one common theme: “There is no one-size-fits-all for a runner. Everyone belongs in this space.”
“Run as One is about celebrating our differences. There are different ways of getting to the finish line but everyone gets the same medal.”
As part of the experience, participants also had the opportunity to demo the all-new Saucony Endorphin Azura, received a pre-signed copy of How She Did It by Molly Huddle, and a custom tote personalized by Philadelphia artist Vincent Bush.
Thank you to Saucony for partnering with RIDC for this inspiring and much-needed conversation to kick off Love Run Philly weekend!
