RIDC Media & Round Up September 2026
We’re excited for our friends at Game Changers and the work they’re doing with NYRR to bring more women of color into run coaching. Through certification, mentorship, and paid coaching experience, the program is helping coaches build confidence, gain real experience, and step into leadership across the running community. We love to see more pathways opening up in the industry.
RIDC’s Abigail Hollie sat down with The Wire to discuss the running industry, where there’s still room to grow, and what it takes to create real pathways for more people to build careers in the sport. It’s a great conversation with plenty to think about — especially if you care about where the industry is headed next. Check it out, and if you’re interested in working in the running industry, make sure to register for RUN THE INDUSTRY: Career Summit!
ASRA Club’s new documentary tells the story of a team of muslim women taking on the speed journey. Nine of them ran 396km from Chamonix to Marseille this year for three days, mostly in the dark, while being the only visibly Muslim team on the course. In partnership with PACER, the film was released and is a must-see.
Celia Camargo is proof that a career in running can be about way more than the miles. As Director of Community and Purpose at GU Energy Labs, she’s helping create more access, stronger communities, and more space for people to feel like they belong in the sport. This profile of her gets into her journey, her work, and the impact she’s making along the way.
Our RUN THE BLOCK grant recipient, Haraka Run and Walk, was recently featured in The Baltimore Banner! The story highlights the Hyattsville-based running store, the community they’re building, and the impact they’re making as they create more space for runners in Prince George’s County. We love to see it.
Running has gotten a whole lot more social, and relay races may be the next way runners are taking that community beyond the weekly group run. From marathon relays to multi-day team events, race organizers are leaning into experiences built around teamwork, connection, and a little friendly competition. Athletech News takes a look at why team relays could be the next big offshoot of the run club boom.
Seattle running shop Windthrow is showing what can happen when running, culture, and community come together. Its annual 24-hour relay, Overtime, brings runners together for an all-night experience that blends endurance, music, and connection. Proving that community-building can be just as important as what happens on the sales floor.
Turns out, good gear isn’t enough. A survey of women trail runners found that safety, representation, community, and feeling genuinely welcomed matter just as much—if not more—than the products brands are selling. And one stat really stands out: a third of respondents couldn’t name a single brand they felt was helping women access running! This piece digs into what trail running women really want from brands.
