The Running Industry Diversity Coalition Seeks New Board Member Nominations

The RIDC Board of Directors gathered in Philadelphia this summer for a collaborative board retreat.

The Running Industry Diversity Coalition’s (RIDC) mission is to unite the running industry to improve the inclusion, visibility, and access for Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. We are proud of our progress and our work in making the industry more inclusive and equitable. As we continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact, we are excited to announce that we are looking for passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors.

Meet the staff and Board of Directors.

To further strengthen and expand our board and fulfill our mission, we are seeking experienced professionals with the following qualifications, knowledge, and experience:

  1. Philanthropy and Fundraising: We are looking for individuals who can get the organization access to new networks and connections. Your proven track record in fundraising will be invaluable in helping us strategize and tap into additional fundraising opportunities as the organization grows.

  2. Media and Publishing: Your expertise in media is pivotal. It can magnify both the organization's and our members' initiatives, expanding our reach and increasing awareness for RIDC's growing content.

  3. Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurs are natural problem-solvers and innovators. If you’ve ventured into startups or own a business, your experience could provide a fresh perspective and drive to our team and future programming.

Bonus:

  1. Youth/Gen Z Representation: The youth are our future, and their perspective is crucial. We want you on board if you can help the RIDC remain relevant with the next generation!

  2. Events/Event Management: Organizing events can be a pivotal part of our outreach. If you have experience planning, coordinating, or managing events, your skills could greatly serve our mission.

  3. Professional Athlete (past or present): Athletes have a unique perspective and platform, and their stories can inspire countless others. If you’ve been part of the athletic world, your experience can help promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and racial justice within the running industry.

  4. Legal Expertise: The legal landscape can be intricate, and your knowledge can guide us in making informed decisions, ensuring our initiatives are always compliant and effective, even in critical societal moments.

Note: We will be looking to add two new members beginning in 2024 and three new members beginning in 2025. We will also be looking to add a few advisors in 2024 to advise on specific projects (these are non-voting members).

Commitment for board members:

  • Bi-monthly board meetings

  • Ad hoc board committee meetings

  • Ad hoc meetings with/for the Executive Director

  • Attendance at virtual workshops and events hosted by the RIDC

  • Two in-person BOD retreats (Spring/Summer: location TBA, Fall/Winter: Austin,TX)

  • Financial contribution to the RIDC (personal or through company + sliding scale)

  • Potential: Represent the RIDC at running industry conferences and panels

If you resonate with our cause and believe you can contribute to any of the above roles, please consider nominating yourself (or someone else) to the RIDC Board of Directors. The deadline is Friday, October 13.

By nominating, you recognize someone's potential to champion a more inclusive and racially diverse future for the running industry. Please provide comprehensive details about the nominee, ensuring we understand their strengths and potential contribution to RIDC's mission. Your insights are vital in this journey toward positive change.
